What to expect from your first call to your follow-up, so nothing about your appointment is a surprise.
Scheduling
Call or text 330-721-1350, or send a request online. We schedule you as promptly as we can, and if you are in pain we try to see you the same day. Earlier morning times are available on request.
Your consultation
Dr. El-Refai examines the tooth, takes the images she needs, and walks you through what she sees and your options before anything begins.
Treatment
Local anesthetic keeps you comfortable. Nitrous oxide is available, and a board-certified anesthesiologist is available on request if you would like to be sedated.
Afterward
Expect some tenderness for a few days. Avoid chewing hard food on the tooth until your dentist has placed the permanent crown or filling.
Please bring
- Your dental insurance card, if you have one
- A list of your medications
- Any referral slip or x-rays from your dentist
- Completed forms from the patient portal, if you can
Appointments missed or cancelled with less than 48 business hours' notice carry a fee. Emergencies can occasionally cause delays; we work hard to stay on schedule and appreciate your patience.
Before and after treatment
Should I eat before my appointment?
Yes. Unless you have been told otherwise for sedation, eat normally beforehand. Local anesthetic can leave you numb for a few hours afterward.
Should I take my usual medications?
Continue your regular medications unless your physician or Dr. El-Refai tells you otherwise. If you have been prescribed antibiotics to take before dental visits, take them as directed.
Can I drive myself home?
After local anesthetic alone, yes. If you choose sedation, please arrange for someone to drive you.
Will my tooth be sore afterward?
It is normal for the tooth to feel tender for a few days. Over-the-counter pain relief usually handles it. Call us if you have severe pain or swelling.
What happens after my root canal?
Your general dentist places the permanent crown or filling. Please make that appointment within a few weeks; leaving a treated tooth unrestored is one of the main reasons root canals fail.
